E2 Solar has been in operation since 2008. Our relationship with SunPower helped us grow and supplied us with some of the best solar products and patents in the industry. We were able to offer a premium product to our clients. Solar has been through a lot in recent years. We jokingly refer to it as the Solar Coaster, and as the solar industry continues to evolve, the collapse of a major player like SunPower is extremely sad news and serves as a reminder of the volatility and competitive pressures in the renewable energy market.
With more than 500,000 customers and a 39-year track record, SunPower is one of the top solar companies in the country. But it has struggled in recent months, suspending leases and sales of solar panels.
SunPower declaring bankruptcy is a company-specific issue and should not be seen as a comment on the underlying demand for U.S. residential solar.
Here are a few things current and prospective customers should know about this situation:
First, E2 Solar is a completely independent company on sound financial footing. E2 Solar isn’t reliant on SunPower to stay in business.
Second, SunPower has warranty reserves of over $50 million designed to ensure they can always provide support for their customers. It is too soon for us to say whether or how this might be impacted by their bankruptcy, but such reserves are designed to minimize consumer risk.
Third, we have already transitioned to other great suppliers that offer premium products that stay competitive in today’s market.
Fourth, the future of solar will continue to be stable in Massachusetts. It’s a crucial part to meeting the renewable energy mandates the commonwealth has set.
Finally, we thank all of our customers for putting their trust in E2 Solar. We are local small business dedicated to staying here on Cape Cod. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
